How we choose.
Every place on Journey Place is chosen by us. This page says what we look for, what we leave out and how the lists are ordered.
What we look for
Character. A place with a point of view, in how it looks and in how it feels to spend an hour there: the interior, the light, the details. We show it in photographs that are our own, and a place is here because we think it is worth going back to.
What we leave out
Completeness. We do not try to list every café in a city. A short list we believe in is more use than a complete one.
Nobody pays to be here
Nobody pays to be listed, to be featured or to rank higher. We choose the places ourselves, and no one chooses them for us.
How the lists are ordered
The order of a list is automatic. It looks at how often readers open and save a place, at its Google rating, at how recently its details were updated and, if you share your position, at how close it is. Places we pin ourselves come first. The places you save and the time of day also shape the order you see, in your browser. Nothing in the order is for sale.
